Lavender

Lavender

Used historically for hundreds of years, lavender orginated in the sandy Meditteranean soil and grows well in California. It’s fragrant buds come in many colors and variaties, and the one we use, Grosso is an English variety which has a sweet and long lasting scent.

Lavender is used for aromatherapy as a dried flower bud, as an aromatherapy oil in candles and essential oils and as a topical remedy for healing scars. It is an anti bacterial and is often used in cleaners, room sprays, bath salts, soaps and lotions. It’s many uses include insect repellant, blemish fighter, scorpion repellant, natural calming agent for horses before shows, tea for calming and sprinkled in food for baking.

Historically used to calm babies, children and adults to sleep, lavender actually triggers the nervous system to calm and relax. The scent changes brain waves from Beta to Alpha and if you are wide awake, you will feel calmer and more focused. Studies have shown students test higher in math using lavender aromatherapy.

Lavender and Sleep
Lavender has also recently been scientifically proven to aid in reducing the amount of time it takes to fall asleep and improving the quality of sleep. Studies have also shown that 80% of our healing and regenerating new cells happens while we sleep, and best in Stage 4 sleep, the deepest level of sleep.

Many people only waver between Stages 2-3 and therefore wake up feeling not well rested and do not remember dreaming. Dreaming is important for coping with psychological stress and we must go down to Stage 4 sleep before we can go back up to REM or Stage 1 sleep. So, if you do not remember sleeping most likely you are not getting the deepest Stage 4 and most restorative sleep.

This sleep is especially crucial for those who are unwell, healing, growing, going through life changes or not getting as many hours of sleep as they would like and want to be at optimal level of perfomance the next day despite not having a full 8 hours to sleep. Lavender naturally aids in a better nights sleep!

Lavender only works and has all these benefits however, when you can smell it.

So mists and oils are nice, but they dissipate. A bag of lavender by your pillow is fine, but when you roll over you will not smell it.

The Sleep Sachet works for aiding in sleep particularly well because you can smell it all night long, comfortably and easily.

The natural scent of lavender is non addictive, completely toxin free, certified organic and long lasting. If unwashed, ( it has natural anti bacterial qualities so it need not be washed) the Sleep Sachet will last 1-3 years, just squeeze to release more scent. Our lotions and soaps are paraben free, an anti microbial, because we use the lavender as the natural anti bacterial. Lavender is safe and effective for many uses.

It is also important that you use 100% natural essential oils of lavender, not lavandin, and that they are not synthetic perfumes.

Many who say that “lavender is too strong” actually love our lavender, because it is all natural, certified organic and synthetic perfume free.

Lavender is truly amazing and we invite you to try the most innocuous of all herbs, see how it can help you to relax, sleep better, feel better and live the life you are committed to.

Sleep Well . Feel Well. Live Well.

Sweet Dreams!

“ For years lavender – known for its relaxation benefits – has been encorporated in the formulation of various cosmetic products to induce beauty sleep. However until now the fragrance had not actually been proven to have sleep aiding properties, reports researchers at Wesleyan University.

The study – supported by the Sense of Smell Institute – found that lavender increased the amount of time subjects spent in slow wave or deep sleep - the restful, restorative phase of sleep – resulting in higher vigor scores on the Profile of Mood States test.

“In addition to helping healthy people, lavender may benefit depressed people who characteristically show a reduction of deep sleep time. Indeed, the study has demonstrated an increased sensitivity to lavender in depressed young adults,” said Goel.

”There is now scientific evidence to show that aromatherapy with lavender slows the activity of the nervous system, improves sleep quality, promotes relaxation, and lifts the mood in people suffereing from sleep disorders. “

”Aromatherapists also use lavender as a tonic in inhalation therapy to treat headaches, nervous disorders, and exhaustion.”

“Lavender may be used as aromatherapy for children.”
